What is the Sutherland Hospital Redevelopment Project?

The $62.9 million redevelopment of Sutherland Hospital includes:

  • A new and expanded emergency department with 44 treatment bays, including three resuscitation bays

  • 60 new acute inpatient beds, including six high dependency/intensive care beds and a 14 bed general medical unit

  • Additional storage space for theatres to alleviate some of the existing operational constraints and improve efficiencies.

What will the benefits of this project be?

This redevelopment is a major investment by the NSW Government and will meet the future needs of patients by delivering healthcare services for the current population of the local area  and beyond.

When did the mains works commence?

Main works construction got underway in early 2016. 

When will the project be finished?

Main works are scheduled to be completed in 2017, with refurbishments to follow. Operational commissioning will commence following the completion of construction.

Will the existing emergency department be accessible during the construction works?

Yes, the emergency department will continue to operate as a continuous 24 hour service.
